BWCE Fund Focus: Share and Repair

Share and Repair receive a £4,300 grant from the BWCE Fund to tackle waste reduction.

Bath Share and Repair help local communities save money and reduce waste by repairing, sharing and reusing everyday items.

In 2025 they received a grant of £4,300 from the BWCE Fund grant to help them act as a catalyst for further action, to enable more people to become involved in reducing carbon, waste and landfill through external events and community engagement.

These events empowered local people with skills to attempt repairs themselves and gain further understanding of the impact that this has on the environment. Approximately 700 people have benefitted from these waste reduction initiatives.

Using this grant, Share and Repair engaged with:

  • A pilot programme for young people in alternative education to teach them repair skills in partnership with Youth Connect South West. One student has been inspired to sign up for a practical course as a result of the confidence gained from the sessions.

  • A session for artists with Bath Spa University to give them practical repair skills.

  • Buro Happold Young Employee Forum workshop teaching sewing and darning skills, what to keep in a toolbox, and how to repair household items to keep them longer.

  • First Larkhall energy saving session with one of our BWCE Home Energy Champions (they hope to repeat this at other Repair Cafes).

This has been one of the most successful sessions of the year – each young person who has taken part has benefitted not just from the learning and the activity, but also from the relationships with the volunteers. It was pitched exactly right.

The fund also enabled them to take part in Tech Amnesties in partnership with Donate IT. So far 611 items and 1,796kg of tech have been collected and, as much as possible, will be rehomed. The remaining precious metals will also be recycled. This has provided a practical way to rehome unwanted tech items allowing people to take action in becoming more sustainable and therefore reducing items being taken to the recycling centre.
