energy Local Fairy Hill
BWCE plans to sell solar electricity from Fairy Hill Solar Farm in Compton Dando to local householders via an Energy Local Club
BWCE’s small scale solar farm at Fairy Hill is nearly complete. We’re preparing to establish an Energy Local Club through which we can supply renewable electricity to local residents.
The club will have fixed price electricity (both from the solar farm and the prices households pay when the solar farm isn’t generating, i.e at night) for a year and will not be influenced by the current instability in the energy market.
We are currently looking for pioneering club members to be part of Energy Local Fairy Hill from the end of May 2026.
Specifically, households that:
Live within the primary substation area as shown on the map
Have a smart meter
Don’t have their own solar panels.
How has the club area been decided?
The electricity grid rules that govern our local supply club only allow us to sell to households connected to the same primary substation as the generation (i.e. properties supplied by the same local cables).

Who is Energy Local?
Energy Local is a community interest company with a community energy model that matches local electricity generation with local electricity use.
BWCE are working in partnership with Energy Local to establish the local supply club.
-
Energy Local set up their first Club in Bethesda, North Wales in 2016, selling electricity directly to the community from a renewable energy project, and following its success, have used the same proven model in 30 plus Energy Local Clubs around the country.
When the sun is shining and Fairy Hill Solar Farm is generating power, members of the club can use that electricity at a reduced, locally agreed rate.
This means:
More value from locally generated renewable energy
Greater community benefit
A practical step toward a smarter, fairer energy system
