energy Local Fairy Hill

important update- July 2026

There was a localised fire in the sub-station cabin at Fairy Hill Solar Farm in early July. Engineers were on site at the time, No injuries were sustained.

The District Network Operator (DNO) safely isolated the electrical supply to and from the site to allow the Fire Service to tackle the fire.

A full investigation including a Health and Safety inspection and a Fire Investigator inspection have been completed.  We are working with the installation contractors to get the fire-damaged equipment replaced as soon as possible,

It will be several weeks before the site will be generating again, our Energy Local club is currently paused whilst issues are resolved.

Energy Local Fairy Hill - currently paused

We have set up an Energy Local Club with a small group of local pioneers to sell lower cost, clean renewable electricity to residents.

The club has a fixed price electricity (both from the solar farm and the prices households pay when the solar farm isn’t generating, i.e at night) for a year and will not be influenced by the current instability in the energy market.

We look forward to continuing this work when issues are resolved,

Who can get involved?

A small number of local pioneer club members have already joined the Club,

Specifically, households that:

  • Live within the primary substation area as shown on the map

  • Have a smart meter

  • Don’t have their own solar panels.

How has the club area been decided?

The electricity grid rules that govern our local supply club only allow us to sell to households connected to the same primary substation as the generation (i.e. properties supplied by the same local cables).
