Renewable Energy can’t ever meet the amount of electricity we need so why bother?

The UK is already moving rapidly to an electricity system powered by renewables. In the first quarter of 2024, 50.9% of the electricity generated came from renewable energy sources.

Oxford University’s recent research shows that it’s entirely possible for the UK to meet its energy needs with wind and solar, coupled with storage solutions. Thanks to advances in battery technology and other forms of energy storage, we’re getting closer to being able to store power for times when the wind isn’t blowing or the sun isn’t shining.

To fully achieve net-zero emissions and hit the government’s Clean Power 2030 target, we’ll need to speed up the development of renewable energy infrastructure. But the fact is, renewable energy isn’t just a theoretical solution it’s already becoming a practical and scalable one. The question isn’t whether it can work; it’s about how quickly we can scale it up to make it our primary energy source and play our part in reducing carbon emissions. Community energy is a key part of this solution; you can find out more about our model here
