Sonya Bedford

Sonya is a Partner with Stephens Scown solicitors; a Non-Executive Director at Regen SW; a Director at Exeter Community Energy and South Dartmoor Community Energy; vice chair of Green Wedmore and chair of the committee for her local branch of the Energy Institute. Sonya is currently undertaking her MSc in Renewable Energy at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

Her strengths lie in dealing with all aspects of hydro, wind, solar PV, biomass and anaerobic digestion projects from feasibility through to construction and funding. Sonya has a particular expertise in accessing grid; of development of alternative connections and licensed and local supply. Published papers include – green belt and solar development, local supply, solar thermal, asset management for renewables and optimising AD projects.

Her recent experience also includes acting for over 20 community energy groups – from set up/funding/site acquisition to development and subsequent generation.

With Sonya’s leadership, the Energy Team at Stephens Scown has gone from strength to strength over the last six years: from seeing its first 1.5 MW solar farm in 2010 to now being responsible for over 500MW of renewable energy projects.
