Jane Laurie

Jane started her career as a social scientist, with an MA in Rural Social Development. She spent fifteen years working in Africa and Central America (eg as VSO Field Director). Returning home to Bradford on Avon, she worked for the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust for ten years, developing a large and proactive local sustainability programme, including the energy advice service in Wiltshire and related energy projects. She was also a member of the senior management team.

She went on to work with other Wildlife Trusts throughout the South West and nationally, in development of sustainability and climate change initiatives. At the same time, she studied for an MSc at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. More recently, she worked on an EU community energy project for Wiltshire Council, liaising with partners in the South West and Brittany.

Bradford on Avon has been her home for over thirty years, where she has been actively involved in the local community. She was a founder member of Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon, and took the lead in developing the first energy projects, including PV on Christchurch primary school, energy efficiency improvements in various community buildings, and acquisition and use of a thermal imaging camera.  She also works in the family organic vineyard on the edge of the town.
