This autumn we are proud to announce that we have rolled out further rooftop solar schemes across three schools in our area. Projects have been part-funded by the South-west Local Solar Scheme*

Bathford Church School

The following schools will benefit from lower-cost clean electricity generated by the sun for the next 25 years, which will reduce carbon emissions and make substantial savings to the school’s electricity bills, so more budget can be diverted to teaching and learning resources:

  • Bathford Church School.
  • IKB Academy (Keynsham)
  • Wellsway School (Keynsham) – both the Lansdown building and the Wellsway Sports Centre.

IKB Academy and Wellsway School are part of the Futura Learning Partnership and were installed in collaboration with Keynsham Community Energy,

(*These projects are part of the SouthWest Local Solar Scheme, which aims to install 2 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity across the West of England by 2025. The scheme is funded through a £500,000 grant from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s Green Recovery Fund)

This takes our total number of rooftop solar projects across school and leisure facilities to 35 and along with 5 solar farms and a water wheel our renewable energy projects now generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 5000 homes. Our model is one of community benefit, surplus income generated from our projects is reinvested for local good. Since 2015, we have invested £430,000 into the BWCE Fund which has supported 101 community projects focused on fighting fuel poverty or delivering energy efficiency and carbon savings.

Projects like this are a win for building owners, the environment and local community.
