The 4MW solar array in the china clay works north of Plymouth is our latest project, commissioned in December 2015. Its part of a larger split site project. BWCE stepped in to purchase the project as a community scheme, before key deadlines that would have otherwise prevented its construction. The project cost just over £5 million and was financed through a mixture of shares and bonds raised through our last offer, together with a loan from Close Brothers.

The project was financed with the support of a range of local community energy groups, including Tamar Energy Community, Realm Community Energy, PL21 and PEC Renewables. PL21 have just set up their own Community Benefit Society, South Dartmoor Community Energy with the intention of buying into the project at the end of the first two year term of the bond.
